Circadian Lighting Technology

The light your
biology was
designed for

Veralux replaces static office troffers with a seven-channel LED fixture that continuously replicates the full biological spectrum of natural daylight — driven entirely by the solar elevation angle at your building's coordinates.

How It Works

One variable.
Seven channels.

The solar elevation angle — calculated in real time from your building's GPS coordinates and the current timestamp — is the single input that drives all seven LED channels simultaneously. No outdoor sensors. No cloud dependency. No manual scheduling. The NREL Solar Position Algorithm runs on an embedded microcontroller and continuously maps the sun's position to each channel's biological curve.

The result is a measurable and continuous increase in melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance — the standardized metric for circadian light stimulus — at precisely the times of day when the biological clock is most responsive.

The Science

Built on established
peer-reviewed biology

Veralux does not propose a new theory. It applies confirmed mechanisms — each validated in peer-reviewed literature — to a problem that existing lighting products have not addressed.

The Molecular Clock

Every cell in the human body contains a circadian clock — the CLOCK-BMAL1 transcription-translation feedback loop cycling at approximately 24 hours. Light is the primary synchronizer of this system to the external environment.

Partch et al., 2014 · Trends in Cell Biology

Melanopsin & ipRGCs

Intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells express the photopigment melanopsin, peaking in sensitivity at approximately 480nm — the cyan range. These cells project directly to the suprachiasmatic nucleus, the brain's master clock.

Berson et al., 2010 · Physiological Reviews

OPN5 Peripheral Clocks

A 2019 discovery confirmed that mammalian skin, cornea, and retina contain OPN5 (neuropsin) — a photopigment sensitive to violet and near-UV light that entrains peripheral circadian clocks independently of the SCN. No commercial product has incorporated this pathway until now.

Health Consequences

The American Heart Association's 2025 scientific statement directly links circadian disruption to Type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. A systematic review of 75 studies associates it with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer risk.

Workplace Productivity

A real-world IoT office RCT (2025) found dynamic circadian lighting produced a 1.5× increase in melatonin amplitude versus static lighting. A shift-worker study found a 19.4% improvement in self-reported work performance under circadian-supportive light.

248-Scientist Consensus

A 2023 Frontiers in Photonics consensus statement from 248 researchers confirmed that daytime circadian lighting enhances entrainment, improves alertness, and that fewer than 0.5% of lights sold today have any circadian-supportive properties.

Who It's For

Three markets.
One fixture.

Any environment where people spend the majority of their waking hours under artificial light is an opportunity. Three segments represent the clearest and most immediate commercial cases.

01

Commercial Offices

Circadian disruption costs US employers an estimated $575 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare. ROI modeling shows a payback period under seven months for a 250-person office. The fixture is a capital allocation argument, not a wellness amenity.

Largest market by volume
02

Healthcare Facilities

Hospitals compete on environment of care ratings. Lighting engineered for biology differentiates on a dimension static LED systems cannot address. Staff performance across long shifts and patient recovery time are both directly linked to circadian alignment.

Priority pilot market
03

Senior Living & Long-Term Care

Residents spend close to 100% of their time indoors. Circadian disruption in elderly populations is directly linked to cognitive decline, fall risk, and sundowning behavior. CMS star ratings include quality of life metrics this technology demonstrably improves.

Highest unmet need

The business case
is compelling

At approximately $1,000 per installed fixture, a 150-fixture office deployment costs $150,000. Against a conservative estimate of $272,500 in annual productivity recovery — derived from published presenteeism and absenteeism data — the payback period is under seven months. The five-year ROI is 808%.

This makes the Veralux fixture a capital allocation decision with a measurable financial return, not a wellness amenity competing for discretionary budget.

The Prototype
